Did you know that Carboreal reforests wastelands and abandoned fields and turns them into biological carbon sinks? In this blog post, we summarize the latest media coverage published by Sieviläinen in March 2024 to give you an insight into our activities.
Offsetting the Carbon Footprint Through an Afforestation Project
An article published in a local newspaper Sieviläinen on 13.3.2024, describes the core of our business, reforestation projects. For 2023, the result of natural carbon sequestration was 100 000 CO2 eq tonnes and the target for this year is to reach the 1 million tonnes mark.
"In a short period, Carboreal has grown to become a major provider of carbon offset services for companies to reduce their carbon footprint in Finland. Founded in spring 2023, the company currently employs 17 people on a full-time or part-time basis, and Carboreal also employs its partners through subcontracting," say Sieviläinen's journalists, describing Carboreal's operations.
"The reforestation projects we offer our clients not only contribute to carbon sequestration, but also increase the biodiversity, or diversity, and resilience of the ecosystem. We reduce the carbon footprint of companies by buying fields and wasteland that have been abandoned while clearing and planting spruce and pine trees on these lands," said founding partners Antti Kangas, an agricultural entrepreneur and member of parliament, and Aleksi Vilén, a bioenergy and forestry expert.
